High-end Detroit watchmaker Shinola is opening its first Colorado store this week.

The 1,519-square-foot store in the Cherry Creek Shopping Center will open at 10 a.m. Friday, the brand’s 20th brick-and-mortar retail location in the U.S. and 22nd worldwide.

The Denver store, on the mall’s lower level near Nordstrom, will feature Shinola’s full lineup of goods — watches, bicycles, leather goods, journals, jewelry, audio equipment and more, the company said. Shoppers will also be able to build custom watches in-store, and free on-site monogramming will be available for Shinola journals and leather goods.

“While we continue to expand our retail footprint in the U.S., our launch in Colorado is an important next step in our rollout plans,” CEO Tom Lewand said in an email. “We always want to be sure we are opening in markets that will welcome Shinola, and we feel our brand will fit in well in Denver’s vibrant shopping and cultural community.”

Famed for its commitment to U.S. manufacturing, Shinola in recent years has tangled with the Federal Trade Commission over its use of the slogans “Where American is Made” and “Made in Detroit.” The backs of all Shinola watches — which are assembled in a Detroit factory — now read “Made in Detroit” with the phrase “Swiss and imported parts” just below.
