We polled store owners and stylists at a few fashionable area stores and here’s what they say will instantly update your wardrobe this season and beyond:
Leather moto jacket: This is a statement piece that will take a wardrobe from one season to the next. This classic silhouette adds the perfect amount of edge to any outfit — whether it’s over a simple shift dress, or a favorite T-shirt with black jeans and sneakers for a night on the town.
Loafers: Add immediate street credit to any look with these shoes. Try pairing them with coated black skinny jean or shift dress. Among the top picks: Rag & Bone’s Curtis loafer in black patent leather with a metal chain across the top.
The asymmetrical sweater: an angled hemline puts a fresh twist on a wardrobe staple, and elevates a day-to-night look from such designers as See by Chloe, Phillip Lim and Alexander Wang.

Cutout footwear: Short boots with cutouts or peep toes, mules with open heels, caged booties and lace-up styles are the season’s standout shoe choices.
Cropped jackets: A jacket that ends at the waist, like a bomber or moto – emphasizes the waist and looks good over high-low tops, dresses and other pieces.

Oversized silhouettes: The is a huge trend this season (no pun intended), and for good reason. The look is chic, ultra-comfortable, and when worn the right way, surprisingly slimming too. Styling pro tip: layer an oversized dress like one from Black Crane over pants for a sophisticated look to transition into fall.
Statement earrings: Along with all things ’90s, statement earrings are having a major moment. It’s an easy way to transition a simple outfit into something noteworthy.
Wide legs: Although skinny jeans are far from being out, it’s refreshing to try out a new pant silhouette, and wide legs are the way to go. When wearing cropped wide-leg styles, opt for something that ends right below the calf or at the upper ankle for a flattering look.

Fall florals: In muted colors but often bolder patterns than they appear for spring, autumnal blooms are showing up on dresses, jackets, even boots.
The new bomber: Inspired by its military origins but in styles that are all-out glam, look for versions in satin, velvet, brocade and prints. Embellishments include embroidery, floral appliques and metallic trim.
